Sape with Top Painted Motif (Miniature)

Miniature Sape. Handcrafted in Borneo. Hand carved, with the top hand painted in a Sarawak native tribal motif.

The top part of the sape is hand painted, with colours representing the Sarawak flag. The body of the sape is painted with a stencil. A miniature-size sape, ideal as a home decorative item, art collectible, gift or souvenir.

Carved from a single bole of wood, the sape is a traditional lute of the native Orang Ulu tribe of Borneo. It began as ritualistic trance music and gradually became a social instrument used for dances and entertainment.
